Monopoly Newport Edition (Photo: Ken Abrams)

Move over Atlantic City – there’s a new board game in town.

If you’ve ever wanted to buy a hotel on Bellevue Ave., we got you covered – as long as you do it on family game night. MONOPOLY: Newport Edition was introduced today in a brief ceremony at Audrain Auto Museum, an event that included an appearance from Mr. Monopoly, as well as game creators and local officials.

The Newport edition replaces the perennial board game’s Atlantic City squares (from Boardwalk to Park Place) with Newport cultural sites, historic landmarks, charitable organizations, and businesses. It also features customized Community Chest and Chance playing cards to ensure the board is a historic and enduring tribute to one of the most popular destinations on the East Coast.

The game is designed to be familiar. All the rules are the same, except the game spaces highlight notable spots around the seaside city. Properties include Boys and Girls Clubs of Newport, Firehouse Theatre, Newport Craft, Second Beach, and Dels Lemonade. Among the most expensive spaces … Bowen’s Wharf, the Audrain Auto Museum, and the Tennis Hall of Fame.

Look for MONOPOLY: Newport Edition in local businesses this summer.
