Rhode Island is under another air quality alert Saturday, July 18, as wildfire smoke that moved south of the state Friday recirculates back into the region under a southwest flow. The Department of Environmental Management forecasts unhealthy conditions for sensitive groups, with some improvement expected Sunday.
Residents with asthma, heart conditions, or lung conditions are advised to stay indoors with windows closed, turn off any fresh air intake on air conditioning systems, limit outdoor activity, and wear a properly fitted N95 mask if going outside. Drivers should set car air systems to recirculate.
Poor visibility and the smell of smoke are also expected.
Current conditions are available at dem.ri.gov/airquality or airnow.gov, and through the AirNow app.
