The 28th Annual IYRS Summer Gala promises to be an evening that perfectly captures the intersection of maritime heritage and musical legend when The Legendary Wailers featuring Junior Marvin takes the stage tomorrow night at the IYRS School of Technology & Trades on Thames Street.

The fundraising event for IYRS School of Technology & Trades, with general tickets still available for $500, the nation’s premier marine trades and modern manufacturing school, begins at 6 p.m. with cocktails along the historic Newport waterfront. Dinner and live auctions will follow at 7:30 p.m. under the tent before the headlining performance at 9:30 p.m. by Junior Marvin, the Jamaican guitarist who joined Bob Marley & The Wailers in 1977 and played lead guitar on all subsequent albums until Marley’s passing in 1981.

Marvin’s debut with Bob Marley was on the acclaimed “Exodus” album, which Time Magazine declared “Album of the Century” in 1999. Now fronting The Legendary Wailers, Marvin performs Bob Marley & The Wailers’ hit songs “the way Bob intended them to be heard”, carrying forward the reggae icon’s musical legacy for new generations.

The evening supports a critical mission at IYRS, where nearly 80 percent of students receive financial assistance to pursue hands-on education in boatbuilding and restoration, composites technology, digital modeling and fabrication, and marine systems. The school, founded in 1993 as the International Yacht Restoration School, offers accredited programs designed to prepare students for careers in industries ranging from yacht building to aerospace and renewable energy. With an impressive 87 percent graduate employment rate, IYRS has established itself as a vital pathway for students seeking careers in skilled trades and advanced manufacturing.

Hosted by Gala Co-Chairs Barbara van Beuren & Steve Glascock and Anne & Matt Hamilton, the event is expected to welcome 650 guests.
