The Newport Tree and Open Space Commission will mark Arbor Day with a special tree-planting ceremony at the newly constructed Newport Skatepark on Thursday, April 24.

This event celebrates the vital role that trees and open spaces play in promoting public health and well-being and marks the official dedication of the skatepark in memory of Seamus Kirby, a cherished member of the Newport community whose influence extended beyond the skateboarding community through his creativity, kindness, and dedication to the values of camaraderie and perseverance.

As part of the ceremony, a London Plane tree will be planted in Seamus’ honor as a symbol of the City’s commitment to the planting, caring, and nurturing our tree canopy and urban forest.

The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, April 24th, at 4:30 p.m. at the John Chafee Recreation Area in the City’s North End.

Parking is available on the street and at the CCRI Newport Campus parking lot.
