“DEVIANT,” a national juried exhibition curated by Salve Regina University art history students, opens Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Dorrance H. Hamilton Gallery and runs through Nov. 22.
The show takes deviance as its subject — as concept, label and worldview — across painting, drawing, collage and mixed media. Fourteen artists are included: Kathy Black, Jenny Carpenter, Kara Dunne, Ronald Gonzalez, Tina Isla, Vesna Jovanovic, Sara Kramer, Scott Lewis, Beau McCall, Arezoo Moseni, Kristin O’Connor, Jeff Stauder, Lisa Wilde and Stefanie Wills.
Advanced art history students curated the exhibition under professors Ernest Jolicoeur and Anthony Mangieri. The same class is hosting a public symposium, also titled “Deviance,” on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m.
An opening reception runs from 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 22, open to the public.
The gallery is in the Antone Academic Center, with parking along Lawrence and Leroy avenues. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, and noon to 4 p.m. weekends. It’s closed Mondays. The gallery is accessible.
