Kimberly J. Edwards

Kimberly Jean (Weiss) Edwards, 56, of Warwick’s journey on this earth ended on November 1st, 2026. She was born in Providence RI, to Mary-Beth Sullivan Smith and Karl Weiss on September 30th, 1970.

Her journey may have been short, but oh, what a journey it was. Imbued with the love of travel from an early age she traveled far and wide and she explored our world with even greater fervor following her cancer diagnosis at the age of 38. She was never satisfied with just one trip on her plate; she was always planning the next. Deeply proud of her heritage, her travels took her multiple times to Ireland and Germany, and regardless of roots, she loved to visit France, Thailand, Mexico, and so many places here in the USA, just to name a few. Her Facebook page is a wondrous visual travelogue of her joyful expeditions with family and friends. She passed that enthusiasm and love for exploration to everyone that ever accompanied her on one of her meticulously planned excursions.

Her innate joy, passion, and organizational skills were self-evident in everything she did. From her travels to her job in contracts management for the USDA, to her golf leagues, to her active membership in the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH), to her home projects. Even the simplest activities with her were filled with fun and laughter, whether it was a night out at a local eatery, a hike, listening to live music, or visiting festivals. She loved the holidays, especially Halloween and Saint Patrick’s day. The latter was an incredible all-weekend event down in Newport for her and everyone that came along for the ride. She had a vast network of friends from those activities and all her past activities as well. She forged lifelong friendships among her LAOH sisters, from her days playing volleyball and golf, as well as her days living in San Diego and Washington, D.C.

She was fierce, beautiful, smart, funny, devoted, determined, kind, thoughtful, loving and on top of all that she had a smile that could light up the sky. The writer of this fell in love with her because of that luminous smile.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Mark, her mother Mary-Beth, her father Karl, her brother Colin (Erin), her nephew Jake, her stepchildren Zack, Tess, and Nick, her sister Penny and nephews Alex, Kyle, and Brayden, and her cousin (more like sister) Alison, and numerous additional cousins and family.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 21st, at O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., Newport, RI, from 12 pm – 2 pm, followed immediately by a celebration of life down the block at the Hibernian Hall, 2 Wellington Ave., Newport, RI.
