Soul City headlines the next NIMFest concert on Sunday, Aug. 16, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the King Park Gazebo, 125 Wellington Ave. The show is free and open to the public, weather permitting.
The horn-driven party band has been playing since 1988 and has built a reputation across New England for packed dance floors and high-energy sets. Its repertoire spans soul, R&B, funk, disco and older classics. According to the New England Music Organization, the band’s musicians have backgrounds that include Berklee College of Music, the New England Conservatory and the Newport Jazz Festival.
NIMFest — short for Newport Independent Music Festival — is presented by NEMO, a nonprofit supporting musicians across the region. The series is funded by The Hamilton Family Foundation and the City of Newport.
Concertgoers are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. King Park is accessible by paddlecraft for kayakers and paddleboarders. Parking is limited and organizers suggest carpooling. Alcohol is not permitted in the park, and there are no rain dates.
