Michael Lewis

With a heavy heart, we share the news of the passing of Michael Rutherford Lewis (Mike). Mike was born on January 13, 1963, in Washington, DC, but lived most of his life in Newport. Mike got a kick out telling people he was born in the United States, but wasn’t born in a State–it stumped most people.

Immediately after high school Mike worked at Transcomm for several years. Then, Mike founded Aquidneck Island Maintenance Services and ran his business most of his adult life before being forced to retire because of medical issues. He had a knack for fixing just about anything. At just 2-years-old, his curiosity and passion for figuring out how things work led him to take apart an entire doorknob on his own. Mike was a jack-of-all-trades who could always figure out a way to fix things. He said what he missed most when he could no longer work was helping people.

Mike liked hard rock music, specifically KISS. He enjoyed working with cars and even had a race car that he raced at the Seekonk Speedway in his younger years.

He leaves behind his beloved sister, Shannon Lewis, who will miss him and will especially miss their weekly family dinners, a tradition that was over two decades long. Mike and Shannon continued the tradition after their mom died. It brought them closer together over the last year and a half. He also leaves behind his nephew, Dr. Jeremy Frank, MD, who he was deeply proud of.

Rest in peace, Mike. You will be missed.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents: Chantee and Lorna Lewis.

Burial arrangements have not been finalized yet.
