Puddingstone Music has announced two September concerts at Rough Point, following sold-out performances in August.
Pianist David Kaplan performs “Quasi una Fantasia” on Saturday, Sept. 12. The program explores the territory between composition and improvisation, drawing on works with improvisatory qualities either in how they’re performed or how they were written. The title comes from Beethoven, whose Moonlight Sonata is on the program.
Kaplan has appeared with the Britten Sinfonia at London’s Barbican, the Deutsches Sinfonie-Orchester Berlin at the Philharmonie, and with the Baltimore, Hawaii and San Antonio symphonies. The New York Times has described his playing as “excellent and adventurous.”
The Sitkovetsky Trio performs “Romanticism and Musical Poetry” on Tuesday, Sept. 29. The program spans the Romantic era with Beethoven’s “Ghost” Trio, Op. 70 No. 1; Schumann’s Piano Trio No. 3 in G minor, Op. 110; and Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 1, Op. 8. The trio has performed at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Wigmore Hall, the Musée du Louvre and Lincoln Center.
