A proposed 67-zone safety area could help prevent collisions during construction of offshore wind farms. The Coast Guard is seeking public comment on the temporary safety zones.

The proposed zones are part of the area around the Revolution Wind Farm project, located 17 miles southeast of Point Judith, Rhode Island. The project consists of 65 wind turbine generators and two offshore substations, and construction is expected to last between June 1, 2024 and May 31, 2027.

The safety zones are enforced individually as construction progresses from one structure location to the next. The Coast Guard said the zones are necessary to ensure the safety of wind farm workers. The zones could also help prevent collisions with other boats in the area.

The Coast Guard is seeking public comment on the proposed safety zones. Anyone with questions can contact Craig Lapiejko in the First Coast Guard District’s Waterways Management division at (617) 603-8592 or email Craig.D.Lapiejko@uscg.mil. Comments are due by April 22.
