Newport Vineyards will debut a new on-site restaurant, Farm & Barrel Bistro, on Friday, May 8 at its Middletown property.
The bistro replaces the vineyard’s previous dining program with a farm-to-table concept built around ingredients from the winery’s own farm and greenhouses, paired with estate-grown wines and beers from Taproot Brewing Co., the on-site brewery the vineyard launched in 2018.
The restaurant will serve lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner from 4 to 8 p.m., with a “Sips and Snacks” menu of cheeses, wines and craft beers in between. Sunday brunch will continue from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by the full menu from 1 to 6 p.m. The bistro is also introducing a full-service cocktail program.
The menu, described by the vineyard as modern American, will feature house-made pastas, local seafood and crudo, along with taproom favorites. Depending on the date and the vineyard’s event calendar, guests may be seated on the Taproom Terrace or in the upper-level Overlook lounge.

Executive Chef Kyle Johnson, a Rhode Island native and Johnson & Wales University graduate, is leading the kitchen. He returns to the state after working in Boston’s restaurant scene.
“Farm & Barrel Bistro is our next evolution of dining here at Newport Vineyards,” owner John Nunes said in a statement. “From vine to glass and field to fork, this new experience brings everything together in a way that is both elevated and deeply rooted.”
On opening night, dinner guests will receive a complimentary splash of sparkling wine and an amuse-bouche. The Alexus Lee Trio will perform in the downstairs taproom from 5 to 8 p.m. Wine by the glass will come with a commemorative souvenir glass, and diners who present a receipt that night can get 15% off purchases of four or more bottles of wine or four-packs of beer.
Newport Vineyards was founded in 1995 by brothers John and Paul Nunes and is the largest grape grower in New England, producing more than 20,000 cases of estate-grown wine annually across 100 acres in Middletown.
Menus, reservations and additional information are available at farmandbarrelbistro.com. The vineyard is at 909 East Main Road.
