Joint replacement work on the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge moves to the eastbound lanes tonight, the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority announced Tuesday.

Westbound work is complete. Crews begin on the eastbound side at the North Kingstown end at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18. Work will run overnight, Sunday through Thursday, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. RITBA recommends 25 mph through the work zone because of the added safety precautions night work requires.

During daytime hours, work areas will be covered with traffic plates, and drivers should expect the same bumps that have been present in the westbound lanes, along with delays as traffic slows approaching the bridge.

The project replaces the bridge’s seven original joints across both spans. It was put out for bid in 2025.
