Secretary of State Gregg M. Amore and the Rhode Island Department of State’s Elections Division are reminding prospective candidates of the upcoming filing period for declaration of candidacy forms.

Declarations of candidacy must be filed on June 22, 23 or 24, with a deadline of 4 p.m. on June 24. Candidates for federal and statewide offices must file with the Elections Division at 148 W. River St. in Providence, while candidates for state and local offices file with their local board of canvassers. Forms must be physically signed and cannot be emailed or faxed.

Forms are available online and in person at the Department of State or local boards of canvassers’ offices. Nomination papers for declared candidates will be available for pickup on June 30, and all signed nomination papers must be submitted to the correct local board of canvassers by 4 p.m. on July 10.

The ballot placement lottery will be held July 17 at 5 p.m. at the Elections Division.

Important dates and deadlines for the Sept. 9 statewide primary and Nov. 3 general election are available online in the state’s election calendar, with additional information in the 2026 Run for Office Guide.
