The Newport City Council meets Wednesday, July 22, at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 43 Broadway, with a agenda that includes several infrastructure contracts and grant acceptances.
Among the items from the city manager:
The council will consider contracts for restoration of the Rogers High School tennis courts, replacement of the Aquidneck Park playground, and construction of a splash pad and shade structure at the John Chafee Recreation Area using a RIDEM grant. A feasibility study for the Newport Navy Hospital is also on the agenda.
On the grant side, the council will consider accepting a $1.434 million RIDEM Boating Infrastructure Grant for an Ann Street Pier expansion, authorization to seek $300,000 from FEMA for a flood audit pilot project in the Point neighborhood, and a State and Local Cybersecurity Grant.
The council will also take up a contract for a drone first responder and municipal UAV program, a traffic signal improvement project, and a change order on the city’s water and wastewater rate study.
Two communications on the Newport Middle Passage Port Marker are on the agenda — one from the Tree and Open Space Commission expressing support, and one from Stephen White requesting a review of the project.
The council will also vote on appointments to the Ad Hoc Resilience & Sustainability Fund Steering Committee and receive a communication regarding fluoridation of Newport’s water supply.
