Rogers High School was placed in a brief Shelter In Place on Wednesday afternoon, due to an anonymous phone call.

Cathy Nash, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent, shared the following message with What’sUpNewp at 1:33 pm.

“Rogers High School is currently in Shelter In Place, based on an anonymous phone call.  Out of an abundance of caution, police are on the campus now and we will provide an update in approximately 15 minutes”.

At 1:44 pm, Nash provided the following update.

“The ShelterInPlace at RHS has been lifted.  Everyone is safe. The anonymous phone call was deemed non-credible”. 

According to the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency, the following steps occur during a Shelter-in-Place”.

Sheltering in Place provides refuge for students, staff and public within school building during an emergency. Shelters are located in areas that maximize the safety of inhabitants. Safe areas may change depending on emergency, including chemical
release.

Identify safe area in each school building.

Principal warns students and staff to assemble in safe areas. Bring all persons inside building(s).

Teachers take class roster.

Close all exterior doors and windows.

Turn off any ventilation leading outdoors if it’s a chemical or biological emergency.

If advised, cover mouth and nose with handkerchief, cloth, paper towels or tissues.

Cover up food not in containers or put it in the refrigerator.

Teachers should account for all students after arriving in safe area.

All persons must remain in safe areas until notified by Principal or emergency responders.
