Charter Books is gearing up for Pride Month with two exciting author events showcasing LGBTQIA+ perspectives.

On June 11, 2025, at 6 p.m., award-winning author Lydi Conklin will present their debut novel, “Songs of No Provenance.”

Two days later, on June 13, 2025, at 6 p.m., University of Memphis Professor Andrew Donnelly will discuss his latest study, “Confederate Sympathies: Same-Sex Romance, Disunion, and Reunion in the Civil War Era.”

Both events are free and open to everyone. If you plan to attend, visit the Charter Books website to RSVP.

Steve Iwanski, who founded Charter Books and serves as its general manager, highlights the store’s ongoing commitment to Pride Month activities since opening in 2021.

Charter Books has participated in Newport’s Pride Month activities since 2021, less than two months after opening its doors. Iwanski said, “The folks at Newport Out and Newport Pride were some of our earliest and most devoted customers, and every year we look forward to partnering with them to promote authors and books that feature LGBTQIA+ perspectives and voices.”

You can find Charter Books at 8 Broadway in Newport. They offer a diverse selection of new books across all genres. The store is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
