The City Council meets Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 43 Broadway, with a docket that runs from a package of bicycle ordinances to a bid award for replacement fencing along the Cliff Walk.
The bicycle item is the one most likely to draw comment. The council will consider a set of ordinances the city manager’s office has forwarded, though the docket doesn’t summarize what they would change.
Also from the city manager: a collective bargaining agreement with Rhode Island Council 94, AFSCME, covering July 2024 through June 2025; a license agreement for Scott’s Wharf; a memorandum of understanding on dog park amenities along with a construction and maintenance agreement for landscaping at the Pell Bridge ramps; authorization to accept additional federal Safe Streets and Roads for All grant money; and authorization to accept a $137,000 federal grant for an explosive detection canine.
On the consent calendar, the Waterfront Commission has written in support of the Perrotti Park bulkhead project, described as a two-story building with a roof, which would be referred to the city administration. Residents of Spouting Rock Drive have asked to rename an unoccupied street. Laurie Love has resigned from the Energy and Environment Commission.
The Coastal Resources Management Council sent a revised public notice on an application concerning 185-199 Narragansett Ave. at Easton Bay.
The council will also hold a hearing on an annual Class A indoor entertainment license for the Tavern on Broadway, covering noon to 1 a.m. daily.
The consent calendar carries roughly a dozen special event permits, including Newport Live shows at Belmont Chapel and the Great Friends Meeting House, the Naval War College’s Cardines Classic on Sept. 25, the Sail for Pride social at Safe Harbor Newport Shipyard on Sept. 26, Trinity Church’s pumpkin patch through October, the Landing’s Seafood Fest and Newport Contemporary Ballet’s fall performances and Nutcracker run at Rosecliff.
