The University of Rhode Island is hosting a community workshop on sustainable design solutions for Mackerel Cove Beach and Sheffield Cove waterfront in Jamestown.

The event, set for February 20, 2025, aims to get local residents’ input on ways to make the coast more resilient to climate change and storm damage.

URI’s Landscape Architecture and Ocean Engineering departments are leading the initiative, which will be held at Jamestown Town Hall from 6 to 8 p.m.

“We’re excited to hear your ideas!” the organizers say in their announcement.

The workshop kicks off with a social hour and snacks from 6 to 6:30 p.m., followed by a presentation.

Participants will get to explore sustainable design options and help shape their community’s future as it faces environmental challenges.

Rhode Island Sea Grant and the Jamestown Conservation Commission are sponsoring the event.

If you’re interested in attending, you can RSVP through an online form provided by the organizers.
