Newport-based Clagett Sailing has picked five sailors to compete at the 2.4mR World Championships in Lake Garda, Italy, this October.

The team, revealed on Feb. 26, includes Chuck Allen (North Kingstown, Rhode Island), Peter Eager (Toronto, Ontario, Canada), Delani Hulme Lawrence (Saint Paul, Alberta, Canada), Siobhan MacDonald (Toronto, Ontario, Canada), and Julio Reguero (San Juan, Puerto Rico). Tim Ripley (Randolph, New Jersey) will be the backup.

All five team members have received boats through Clagett Sailing’s Boat Grant program. Three are from Canada, one from the United States, and one from Puerto Rico.

“The Board of Clagett Sailing is pleased to announce the members of the 2025 Team Clagett who will be competing at the 2025 2.4mR World Championships which will be held in Fraglia Vela Malcesine on Lake Garda, Italy, in October. The five team members will be representing Clagett Sailing and supported by Clagett Sailing in their individual efforts to epitomize Clagett Sailing’s motto to Reach for Success.  We are delighted Delani, Julio, Peter, Siobhan and Chuck have been selected and thrilled all five members are Boat Grant Program recipients. We wish them every success as they strive for their personal goals,” commented Clagett Sailing President and Co-Founder Stephanie McLennan.

This isn’t the first rodeo for Eager, Hulme Lawrence, and Reguero. They represented Clagett Sailing at the World Championships in Tampa, Florida, back in 2022.

Hulme Lawrence is thrilled about the opportunity: “Being picked for Team Clagett 2025 at the 2.4mR World Championships is amazing! This is my second time on the team, and I’m honored to represent Clagett on Lake Garda.”

MacDonald adds, “Competing at the World Championships in Europe has been a long-time goal. It’s a rare chance to test myself against the world’s best sailors.”

For Allen, this opportunity means more than just sailing: “After my stroke, it’s given me a boost of confidence in sailing small boats again.”

Clagett Sailing is helping out with some of the costs for the team’s travel and competition in Europe.

To get ready for the World Championships, the sailors will take part in the 23rd annual C. Thomas Clagett, Jr. Memorial Clinic and Regatta in Newport, Rhode Island, from June 18 to 21, 2025.
