Newport Harbor’s heaviest cruise traffic of the year is still ahead, with 24 ship calls scheduled at Perrotti Park between now and Nov. 2, according to an updated schedule from Discover Newport and the Newport Harbor Master.
September is finished. Sunday’s scheduled call by Regal Princess has been cancelled, along with Arcadia’s visit on Thursday.
October accounts for 22 of the remaining calls. Larger ships anchor in the harbor and tender passengers ashore at Perrotti Park, putting them on foot along America’s Cup Avenue and Thames Street within minutes. Smaller ships tie up at the South Alofsin Pier at Fort Adams State Park.
Four October days have two ships in port at once: Oct. 7, 12, 18 and 25. Majestic Princess is the most frequent visitor, calling every Sunday from Oct. 4 through Nov. 1. Silver Shadow makes three more stops, and Seabourn Ovation, Viking Mars, Azamara Journey and AIDAdiva each return twice.
Three small French expedition ships — L’Austral, Le Bellot and Le Lyrial — call within eight days of each other in mid-October.
Two calls have dropped off since the last schedule: Orient Express on Oct. 28 and Victory I on Nov. 12, which had been the season’s closer. Two were added, L’Austral on Oct. 9 and Le Lyrial on Oct. 16.
The season’s final call is now Silver Shadow on Monday, Nov. 2.
