The Newport Rotary Club is holding its annual Citrus Fundraiser, offering fresh-from-the-grove oranges and grapefruit for sale. The fundraiser, a tradition over twenty years, supports local and international Rotary projects and scholarships.

Orders are open until November 18th, with fruit available for pickup in early December at a central location, the exact date depending on the harvest. To order, email citrus@newportrotary.org or call 401-439-7253 and include your phone number.

“All of the fruit we sell is grown in the United States. We source it from an independent grower in Florida,” said Laurene Sorensen, citrus fundraising chair. “Because it’s fresh from the grove, it’s far more delicious than what’s available year-round at the supermarket, so it’s ideal for gifting.”

The Rotary Club donates boxes of fruit to local organizations, meal sites, and food pantries as a charitable gesture. Customers can purchase an extra box for donation, which Rotarians will deliver to a designated organization on Aquidneck Island.

Recent recipients of Rotary funding include the Newport String Project, the Women’s Resource Center, the Martin Luther King Center, Newport County Mental Health, and Child and Family Services.

The Rotary Club of Newport is a diverse group of professionals and community volunteers who provide financial and practical assistance to nonprofits in Newport County and fund college scholarships for Rogers High School graduates.
