A Providence man was sentenced to six years in federal prison after pleading guilty to fentanyl trafficking charges, the office of U.S. Attorney Zachary Cunha says.

Hector Diaz, 30, was accused of arranging for over half a dozen substantial-sized deliveries of fentanyl to another person between late November 2021 and November 2022, prosecutors say.

The deliveries ranged from 25.03 grams to 99.08 grams, according to prosecutors. Each delivery was monitored by the FBI and the drugs were quickly seized by law enforcement when they arrived, prosecutors say.

Diaz pleaded guilty on November 28, 2023, to conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to deliver 40 grams or more of fentanyl and distribution of fentanyl, prosecutors say. He was sentenced on Tuesday by U.S. District Court Chief Judge John J. McConnell, Jr. to six years in federal prison followed by four years of federal supervised release, prosecutors say.

An investigation into the deliveries was led by the FBI Rhode Island Safe Streets Task Force, which is made up of members of the FBI and local police departments in the Rhode Island area.
