The Choir School of Newport County will present a candlelight Concert of Remembrance on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 4 p.m. at St. George’s School Chapel in Middletown.
The free event will feature the Choir School of Newport County, St. George’s School Advanced Vocal Ensemble and members of Trinity Church Choir, Newport, along with orchestra and guest soloists.
The program will include John Rutter’s Requiem, performed in observance of the composer’s 80th birthday, along with works by Nadia Boulanger, Ola Gjeilo, Ned Rorem, Douglas Guest, C.V. Stanford, Philippe Rombi, the Navy Hymn and Parry’s Jerusalem. The concert will also feature a setting by Peter Berton of “You who are passing by,” a text carved in the St. George’s Memorial Schoolhouse Hallway that honors 15 St. George’s students and a teacher killed in World War I.
An anonymous donor has underwritten the concert costs, allowing all voluntary admission donations to directly benefit international humanitarian aid, particularly war relief, coordinated through Episcopal Relief and Development. A reception will follow in the Memorial Schoolhouse.
The Choir School was founded in 2014 to form lives of character and service through the joy and discipline of intergenerational choral music. Recent performance highlights include Messiah at the Mansion at Rosecliff, appearances at Newport Folk Festival and a summer 2024 tour to Argentina.
