Newport Mental Health has been designated a Regional Access Point by the Rhode Island Executive Office of Housing, becoming part of a new statewide network aimed at preventing and ending homelessness.

Regional Access Points are community-based hubs that help individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of losing their homes. The primary goals are to assist those in urgent need of shelter, support those experiencing homelessness in transitioning to stable housing and help stabilize those at risk of losing their current housing.

“We’re proud to take on this role in our region,” said Dayna Gladstein, president and CEO of Newport Mental Health. “By becoming a Regional Access Point, we’re making it easier for people in communities in and around Newport County and the East Bay to access statewide housing services. We’re expanding our commitment to meet people where they are and connect them to housing, behavioral health care, and other resources that meet their full range of needs.”

There are seven Regional Access Points covering the state: Community Care Alliance in Woonsocket, Crossroads in Providence, Open Doors in Pawtucket, House of Hope mobile in Providence, Woonsocket and West Warwick, WARM Center in Westerly, Sojourner House in Providence and Newport Mental Health.

Previously, Rhode Island relied on a centralized housing hotline, which created barriers for individuals without phones or internet and bottlenecks during times of high call volume. While the housing line remains active, individuals are encouraged to work with a Regional Access Point.

The Regional Access Point network simplifies access to housing support by offering local, accessible, face-to-face support and referrals tailored to the needs of each individual or family.

Newport Mental Health’s Regional Access Point team can be reached by walk-in at 42 Valley Road in Middletown from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday and Friday and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; by phone at 401-846-1213, ext. 9105; or by email at RAP@newportmh.org. Outreach teams are also available to meet clients wherever they are most comfortable.

Newport Mental Health is the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic providing mental health and substance use treatment in Newport County. Programs and services are offered for children and adults; immediate access to care is available by calling 401-846-1213.
