Prout captured the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Division 2 girls tennis championship Saturday afternoon at Slater Park, defeating Rogers 4-0 in the state final.

The Crusaders won three singles matches and two of three doubles matches to claim the title over Rogers, which was making its first state final appearance since winning the championship in 2020.

Prout head coach Wayne Turner, who coached Rogers to that 2020 title, praised his former team’s tough players and skill before the match.

Despite the loss, Rogers coach David Maloney was extremely happy with how his team fought all season long. The Vikings upset second-seeded East Providence in the semifinals to reach the state final.

Rogers players were excited to receive their second-place trophy following the match.

Prout captured the singles competition 3-1 and the doubles 2-1, earning the team score of 4-0.
