Besides the construction at Portside at 22 Bowen’s, some other big changes are underway down on Bowen’s Wharf this spring!
Construction is currently underway at The Wharf Southern Kitchen + Whiskey Bar and the Wharf Fish House + Tiki Bar.
The Wharf Southern Kitchen and Whiskey Bar are getting a new and updated deck, and the Wharf Fish House and Tiki Bar is getting a covered second-floor deck and a third-floor balcony.
“We finally broke ground on the new Fish House deck project, which includes a redo of the Southern Kitchen deck and Luke’s Lobster Shack,” Scott Kirmil, Owner and Operator of Inked Restaurant Group, told What’sUpNewp this week.
Inked Restaurant Group includes The Wharf Southern Kitchen + Whiskey Bar, Wharf Fish House + Tiki Bar, Diego’s Newport, Diego’s Middletown Barrio Cantina, and Diego’s Providence. This spring, the group will also open The Quencher in Newport.
Luke’s Lobster Shack, a fellow tenant of Bowen’s Wharf, opened in 2023.
“We will have a new covered 2nd-floor deck and bar at the Fish House and main entrance in front of Diego’s for a much more visual presence and much-needed outdoor seating for Wharf Fish House + Tiki Bar, being we are a tiki restaurant after all,” Kirmil jokingly said.
Kirmil told What’sUpNewp that they are also adding a third-floor balcony off of the top-floor bar at Wharf Fish House + Tiki Bar, which will allow customers to truly enjoy Newport’s amazing sunsets.
The project is “on schedule for a mid to late May opening so far”, according to Kirmil. “It may look like a big mess currently, but ground work will be done and filled in soon to support the new structure”.
Wharf Fish House + Tiki Bar, Wharf Southern Kitchen + Whiskey Bar, and Diego’s Newport all are open regular hours during construction.
According to Kirmil, Evolve Builds is handling the project along with Camera O’Neill Engineers & Cordsen Design.
