Portside, the open-air bar at 22 Bowen’s Wine Bar & Grille, is getting an update to its structure and layout.

“The original Portside Bar was installed in the early 2000s, providing our guests over the last two decades with an amazing venue to have some great food and beverage and to enjoy all that Bowen’s Wharf has to offer,” Ken Cusson, Director of Business Development for Newport Restaurant Group, told What’sUpNewp. “We have updated the structure and site layout to improve the views of the basin and Newport Harbor.”

Cusson tells What’sUpNewp that the overall capacity for seating on the patio will be about the same.

“We have worked “hand in glove” with the Bowen’s Wharf Company, owners of the Wharf, to enhance the overall look and feel to attract more visitors to dine and shop at one of Downtown Newport’s premier destinations,” Cusson shared. The original brick and stone pavers have been reset, holding onto the Wharf’s classic New England waterfront character.”

“The Portside structure will also reflect the architecture of the surrounding buildings,” Cusson shared.  “We have always been part of the fabric of the hospitality community and look forward to continuing in that tradition through our valued employee-owners.”

The menu at Portside will still have all of the favorites. “The freshly renovated portside space will continue to offer a menu very similar to years past,” Kyle Mulcahey, Director of Marketing and Technology for Newport Restaurant Group, told What’sUpNewp.

Mulcahey reminds guests that they don’t have to wait until summer to enjoy the best of 22 Bowen’s offerings.

“In the meantime, we’re still running our Wellington Wednesday special as we have throughout the winter; details below. We will be featuring our Beef Wellington made by our Executive Chef Justin Garcia, which is exclusively served on Wednesday nights during the winter”, Mulchaey shared.

22 Bowen’s Beef Wellington: 7 oz. Filet Mignon, Mushroom Duxelles, Puff Pastry, Bordelaise, 22B Mashed Potatoes, Haricots Verts all for $59 plus tax and gratuity.

Kusson expects Portside to be completed and to open in late April.
