Join Eastern Rhode Island Conservation District (ERICD) to “plog” the Newport Rhode Race Marathon course after the runners on April 13! All participants must sign up by April 8.

Ploggers (those who pick up trash while jogging) and plockers (those who pick up trash while walking) are invited to help ERICD clean up in Newport along the Newport Rhode Races and Events Marathon Route as runners clear out.

There are three signup times to pick from: 10:00 AM-12:00 PM, 12:30 PM-2:00 PM, or 2:00-3:00 pm. Participants will walk or jog a 1-4 mile segment of the race route and pick up trash. ERIC D says that plogging is more fun with a buddy, so volunteers are encouraged to invite friends and family to sign up.

ERICD will provide clean-up materials for bags and gloves for all, generously donated by Keep Nature Wild, as well as trash picker-uppers and little scales to weigh and record your trash at the end of the day. All participants will also receive a goody bag, which includes: a free long-sleeve, high-visibility, dri-fit Plogging shirt; (sizes are first come-first serve); a coupon to Greenvale, snacks, and more!

By plogging with ERICD, “you support ERICD’s mission to conserve our local natural resources. More details, including starting locations and route assignments, will be shared with registered volunteers prior to race day. The sooner you sign up, the better chance your preferences of shirt size, plog buddy, and route assignments will be honored”!
