1 – Spring Newport Restaurant Week: March 2nd – 11th

Prepare your taste buds for mouthwatering menus this season with 3-course prix-fixe lunches and dinners at over 55 participating restaurants throughout Bristol and Newport County; experience culinary walking tours, chef demos, affordable palate-pleasing lodging packages, special themed events and more. 2 – Island Moving Company’s Opening Weekend: March 2nd – 4th

Island Moving Company, Newport’s contemporary ballet company, opens its 36th season at Rosecliff, Newport’s most romantic mansion, March 2 – 4, 2018. The weekend includes two 90 minute shows for audiences to choose from. A Collection of Attitudes will feature the debut of a world premiere created specifically for Newport audiences by nationally renowned choreographer Kevin Jenkins. Newport’s annual family favorite Mother Goose returns for its 6th year at the mansion. More Info

3 – Art After Dark: March 8th

Newport Art Museum’s sparkling late night gathering recently received the 2017 Editor’s Pick Award for Best Artsy Social Event by Rhode Island Monthly Magazine!  Held on the second Thursday of each month, Art After Dark features artful programs, talks, film screenings, gallery games, music, drinks and inspired conversation. Each Art After Dark is unique and full of new adventures. Admission is free for Members. ($10 suggested donation for non-members). More Info

4 – Fantastic Mr. Fox Screening: March 8th

What’sUpNewp and Jane Pickens Theater will host a very special screening of Fantastic Mr. Fox on Thursday, March 8th at 7:30 pm. We know you all love Wes Anderson films. And soon you will see his latest animated film Isle of Dogs at The JPT. Thought you might want to see his 2009 animation Fantastic Mr. Fox. More Info

5 – Studio 54 Night: 5th Friendraiser for newportFILM: March 10th

6 – Newport-Kinsale Chef Exchange: March 10th – 14th

Chefs from Kinsale, Ireland, will descend on Newport for four days of culinary and cultural exchange from March 10th – 14th. The Newport-Kinsale Chef Exchange will kick off on Saturday, March 10th with a tasting event featuring food from all participating restaurants at the Hibernian Hall in Newport. The event is scheduled for 6 pm to 9 pm, tickets are $25 each and available at Hibernian Hall while supplies last. More Info

7 – TEDx Newport: March 10th

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx, which brings local, self-organized events that enable communities to share a TED-like experience. TEDxNewport, where x = independently organized TED event, is produced by a group of inspired locals who have curated a program of TEDTalks videos and live speakers to spark deep discussion and connection right here in Newport. 8 – Second Saturday – Find Your Rhythm & Make Some Noise: March 10th

Back by popular demand, Miss Katie Fairhead will lead you on an exploration of rhythmic sounds and patterns through music and movement at Newport Art Museum! Take a trek through the galleries on a Guided close looking tour and hunt for patterns. What would a low drum beat look like if you could see it? What about the whooshing of the wind? Using a variety of materials, make your own instrument, while learning the fundamentals of percussive sounds and beats. Can you make a sound you “saw” in one of the artworks in the gallery?  Take your special instrument home and keep the music going! More Info

9 – Newport Storm Pint Nights for Newport Saint Patrick’s Day Parade: March 10th – 16th

Eager with anticipation for the 2018 Newport St. Patrick’s Day Parade?  Well, Newport Storm’s Spring Irish Red Ale has been named official beer of the parade for the sixth year! Newport Storm and the Parade Committee will host a pint night at a different bar each night of parade week, Grab a Spring Irish Red Ale and $2 of the purchase goes right to the parade committee and the commemorative pint glass. More Info

10 – Aquidneck Community Table presents Wasted! The Story of Food Waste: March 14th

WASTED! The Story of Food Waste, narrated by Anthony Bourdain, showcases forward-thinking leaders with stories about small, often delicious changes, that we can all make to solve one of the greatest challenges to our future. Through the eyes of chef-heroes like Bourdain, Dan Barber, Massimo Bottura, and Danny Bowien, we see how these influential chefs make the most of every kind of food, transforming what is often WASTED! into incredible dishes that feed more people and create a more sustainable food system. The film also features food waste reduction stories from around the world including waste-fed pigs in Japan, a disposal program in South Korea that reduces household food waste by 30%, and an exciting school garden curriculum in New Orleans.Tickets are on sale now and benefit Aquidneck Community Table’s Zero Waste Initiative. 11 – What’sUpNewp’s 3rd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration: March 16th

Join What’s Up Newp on St. Patrick’s Day eve at Midtown Oyster Bar for our annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration. Stop by for some great food (like a Corned Beef Sandwich), Irish fun, live music from =Ancient Order of Hibernian’s Pipes and Drums, AOH Men’s Singers, and much more. The event takes place from 4 pm to 8 pm, no cover charge. More Info

12 – 62nd Annual Newport Saint Patrick’s Day Parade: March 17th

The 62nd Annual Newport Saint Patrick’s Day Parade will be held, rain, snow, or shine, on Saturday, March 17th. It will begin promptly at 11:00 am from Newport City Hall and will proceed to Carroll Avenue at Saint Augustin’s Church in the heart of the Fifth Ward. The parade this year is estimated to last 2 hours and will include Pipe Bands, Marching Bands, Fife & Drum Corps, Clown Units, reenactment units, and a host of local, state, and regional organizations including police and fire units, social/fraternal organizations, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Schools, and non-profits. 13 – Ragged Island’s First Anniversary Party: March 17th

Join the Ragged Island team for a St. Patrick’s Day/1st Anniversary celebration! 15 – Scratch Series: Cooking With Beer: March 22nd

Newport Vineyard’s Scratch Series opens the doors to theirour kitchens for an up-close instruction on how we run a 100% from-scratch culinary program. An intimate group of guests will joinour Executive Chef Andy Teixeira and his culinary team INSIDE Newport Vineyards kitchen to learn the step-by-step process on cooking with beer. Learn how to make beer cheese dip, beer hand-cut chili and beer bread – mmmm beer. Guests will be welcomed with a glass of beer before heading into the kitchens for the demonstrations, followed by light fare made from their creations and paired with a second glass of beer. 17 – Myth, Memory, History, and Heritage: March 23rd

On Friday, March 23 from 10 am-12 pm join the Newport Historical Society and the Rhode Island Historical Society in a joint program at Newport’s Colony House, Washington Square, Newport, RI, for “Myth, Memory, History and Heritage,” a panel of public historians. The panel will discuss, for an audience of practitioners and the public, questions about how members of a large and diverse “we” perceive the past, and how differences in perspective can have consequences when we try to wrestle with current issues together. How can historic site managers and other public historians approach the myths that families and populations have repeated for generations when scholarship reveals something different? How should we approach cultural differences in how we think about the past? What roles can historical societies play in improving the level of historical literacy in our audiences (and why do we care)? More Details
