Carr-Rice Building on Trinity Church Campus is Coming Down

Construction crews and heavy machinery begin demolishing the Carr-Rice Building on the campus of Trinity Church on Wednesday morning.

Removal of the Carr-Rice Building will “Making way for new mission, new ministry,” Trinity Church shared on Facebook on Wednesday.

“The new building represents an exciting venture for Trinity, and a real opportunity to serve our community through strategic partnerships, ” The Rev. Canon Anne Marie Richards, Rector of Trinity Church told What’sUpNewp back on December 17th.

At the Historic District Commission meeting on December 15th of 2016, members formally heard the proposal for construction of a new building on the Trinity Church campus in place of Carr-Rice.

Several members offered comments before the HDC voted unanimously to approve the proposal.

The application approved the following; “Nov-12 Application of Trinity Church-Rector-et-als, 23 Mill Street, Plat 24, Lot 335, for permission to demolish Carr-Rice building above existing basement. A new structure will be constructed on remaining foundation with new community plaza addition that will abut Frank Street.”

“This result is the outcome of literally years of work by the Rector; the Trinity Campus and Community Design Group composed of Jim Brunnhoeffer, Brian O’Malley, Susan Millis and me; our architects, Glenn Gardiner and Jeff Moniz; and expert counsel from Turner Scott. Credit is also due those who went before and elaborated earlier proposals for dealing with the Carr-Rice Building.” said Trinity Vestry Member Paul D. Taylor.
