John T Gianetis

With profound sadness, the family announces the passing of John T. Gianetis, 86, of Middletown, RI, on July 21, 2026. Born October 9, 1939, in Newport, Rhode Island, John was the son of Stamos and Elizabeth Gianetis, natives of Greece.

John proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, where he served as a helicopter crew chief with the Fleet Marine Force, Atlantic. He took part in the Atlantic amphibious exercise of 1958, participating in the first landing exercise in history in which a force of such magnitude was landed by helicopters from bases aboard U.S. Navy aircraft carriers many miles at sea. After his military service, John went on to build a career as a skilled electrician with Coastal Electrical, where he worked until his retirement in 2001.

John is now at peace, reunited with his son, Todd Gianetis, who passed in 2020. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Gianetis, of 64 years; his son, John B. Gianetis; and five grandchildren: Kristin G. Liddane, Todd W. Gianetis, James R. Gianetis, Alison Gianetis, and Lauren Gianetis. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who touched many lives with his generosity and warmth. He was loved by everyone who knew him, and adored in a way few people ever are. His legacy of love and kindness will live on in all who knew him. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

At John’s request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of their choice.
