Newport Folk Festival 2026 set a new record for bicycle arrivals, with Bike Newport reporting 5,148 bikes over the three-day sold-out event at Fort Adams State Park — the highest three-day total ever recorded.
Friday led the way with 1,816 cyclists arriving by bike, the highest single-day count in the festival’s history. Saturday drew 1,720 and Sunday 1,612.
Festivalgoers cited a mix of environmental, financial, and practical reasons for pedaling in. “I’m biking to the Folk Fest today because Bike Newport has made it super easy and safe. It’s way better than sitting in traffic at the end of the night leaving the festival,” said one attendee. Another put it more simply: “How else are you going to get to the festival?”
Bike Newport manages all bicycle routing and parking for the festival in close collaboration with the Newport Police Department, Newport Department of Public Services, and the Newport Festivals Foundation. Blinking safety lights distributed to cyclists at the end of each night are funded by 11th Hour Racing and installed by Bike Newport volunteers. This year’s 120 new bicycle racks were made possible by a grant from the Champlin Foundation.
