Rhode Island House Representative Terri-Denise Cortvriend has announced she will seek a fifth term representing House District 72, which covers Middletown and Portsmouth.
First elected in November 2018, Cortvriend has focused her tenure on environmental protection, climate resilience, shoreline access, small business support, and senior issues. She chairs the Legislative Study Commission on Climate Change Impacts & Solutions and serves on the House Small Business, Environment and Natural Resources, and Finance committees, where she chairs the subcommittee on Transportation and Environment.
Cortvriend was named the 2025 Clean Water Legislator of the Year and founded the Aquidneck Island Climate Caucus. During her time in office she has passed legislation on PFAS contamination, coastal resource management, and municipal composting. She will also co-chair a new joint commission studying how the state should manage biosolids following the closure of the Woonsocket incinerator, and a House study commission on declining public school enrollment.
