GoProvidence and RI Sports Commission Donate $5,000 to Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity in Honor of Tartan Army

GoProvidence and the Rhode Island Sports Commission have donated $5,000 to the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity in a gesture of gratitude to the Scottish soccer fans who left an unforgettable impression on Providence during their stay in the region.

The initial gift sparked an immediate wave of generosity, with local bars and restaurants — including Hot Club, G Pub, Track 15, Trinity Brewhouse, Murphy’s and Rollers — contributing an additional $5,500, bringing the total raised by the hospitality community to more than $10,500.

“This is our small way of giving back to a group that gave so much to us,” said Kristen Adamo, president and CEO of GoProvidence. “The Tartan Army reignited Rhode Islanders’ love for Providence. They brought joy, a sense of community, and a whole lot of bagpipes everywhere they went. We miss them terribly — and we hope this gesture shows just how grateful we are.”

The Tartan Army, the nickname for Scotland’s traveling supporters, became one of the defining stories of the international tournament, with their songs and spirit filling the city’s streets, bars, ferries and waterfront and turning Providence into an honorary Scottish home base.

The Scottish fans extended their own generosity during the visit, raising $10,000 for Hasbro Children’s Hospital and donating $6,500 to the Rhode Island Highlanders Pipe Band. The Tartan Army Sunshine Appeal gave an additional $5,000 to Project Goal, a local youth soccer charity.

“Sports have a unique ability to build bridges, and the connection between Providence and the Tartan Army is proof of that,” said Jonathan Walker, executive director of the Rhode Island Sports Commission. “Their energy transformed our city. Supporting the Glasgow Children’s Hospital is the least we can do to honor the friendship they extended to us.”

The combined donations will support the Glasgow Children’s Hospital, the largest children’s hospital in Scotland, and its mission to provide care and services to children and their families.

The Rhode Island Sports Commission is a division of GoProvidence, the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau. More information is available at goprovidence.com.
