Tiverton High School girls soccer team successfully defended its Division IV state championship Sunday, defeating Lincoln School 2-1 at Rhode Island College.

The Tigers wasted little time asserting themselves, as Tori Murray found the back of the net in the third minute to give Tiverton an early 1-0 advantage.

Tiverton maintained its lead into the second half before Beatrice Pimentel extended the advantage to 2-0 midway through the period. Lincoln School responded quickly, with Sophia deMelo scoring in the 57th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Despite the late pressure from Lincoln School, Tiverton’s defense held firm to secure back-to-back state championships.

The Tigers’ consecutive titles mark a successful era for the program, which has now established itself as a dominant force in Division IV girls soccer.
