The Newport City Council will consider several significant technology service contracts and make appointments to various city boards and commissions when it meets Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 6:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers at 43 Broadway.

Among the major agenda items, the council will vote on contracts for IT managed services, Office 365 tenant configuration and licensing, and a virtual desktop infrastructure environment upgrade. The city also seeks approval for police vehicle and equipment replacements, as well as a new lease agreement for copiers, printers and supplies.

The council will consider awarding a contract for engineering services related to expanding restrooms along the Cliff Walk, one of Newport’s most popular tourist destinations.

In board appointments, the council will name three new members to the Sister City Commission: Michael Murray, Michele Gallagher and Joseph Logue, each serving three-year terms expiring in April 2026. The council will also reappoint members to several commissions, including the Historic Cemetery Advisory Commission, Public Sculpture Commission and Trust and Investment Commission.

City Manager communications include a request for council nominations for the 2027 Comprehensive Plan Update Advisory Committee. The council will also revisit utility pole petitions from Rhode Island Energy that were continued from the Aug. 27 meeting, including installations on Ruggles Avenue, Old Beach Road, Hillside Avenue and Lawrence Avenue.

The council will hold a second reading of an ordinance amending parking restrictions in designated areas of the city.

During the consent calendar portion, the council will approve several special event permits, including the Newport Art Museum’s “The Court: Art in Play VIP Opening” on Sept. 24, a wiffle ball tournament at Morton Park on Sept. 27, and Newport Contemporary Ballet’s fall performances in October.

The council will also consider liquor licenses for the Preservation Society of Newport County’s Wine & Food Festival at Rosecliff from Sept. 18-21.

The meeting includes a 15-minute Citizens’ Forum where residents may address the council for up to three minutes on city business matters not on the regular agenda.
