The Edward King House Senior Center has announced the recipients of its 2026 Champions for Seniors Awards, which honor people and organizations for their work with older adults in Newport County.
The honorees will be recognized at the center’s annual Mayor’s Luncheon on Wednesday, June 17, at noon at the Wyndham Newport Hotel, 240 Aquidneck Ave. in Middletown. Tickets are $40 per person and are available at www.edwardkinghouse.org.
Donna Lennox was named Volunteer of the Year. Recognized as Champions for Seniors are Carla Sabatino of United Way of Rhode Island; Ellen Eggeman of Key2Home Realty; Barbara and Jimmy Winters of the Newport Housing Hotline; and Brittany Ripke and Frank Pirri of the Newport Police Department’s community policing unit. Brenda Bachman, former chair of the center’s board of directors, will receive the EKHSC Board Emeritus Award.
“These remarkable individuals and organizations embody the very best of our community,” said Carmela Geer, the center’s executive director. “Through their compassion, leadership, and dedication, they have made a lasting impact on the lives of older adults.”
Founded in 1969, the Edward King House Senior Center provides programs, wellness opportunities and social engagement intended to help older adults in Newport County remain active and connected, according to the center.
