Father’s Day weekend brings a packed Saturday schedule and a lighter Sunday lineup, though there are still enough homes open on Sunday that you can count them on both hands. Before the cookouts, rounds of golf, brewery tours, boat rides, and inevitable grass mowing, it’s worth taking some time to explore the local market. There are plenty of opportunities to see what’s available across Newport County and maybe even find the place where your own memories will be made.
Father’s Day has always been a reflective holiday for me. My father passed away when I was young, but even today, there are parts of my mother’s home that bring him right back. I still picture him playing guitar by the fireplace, planting trees in the backyard, mowing the lawn, enjoying a beer on the couch after a long day’s work, or shooting hoops with us in the driveway. We recently had to take down the old treehouse because the branches supporting it had finally rotted after so many years, but I can still remember every board and every afternoon spent up there. It’s funny how homes hold onto those things long after people are gone.
This Sunday also happens to be my first Father’s Day as a dad. My son, Bowen, has brought more joy into my life than I could have imagined, and I hope the years ahead are filled with memories that he’ll carry with him long after I’m gone. In many ways, that’s what a home really is. Not square footage/windows/doors, but the backdrop for life’s moments, both big and small. He just started doing raspberry sounds, and it’s the best thing my ears have ever heard. I’m a very lucky guy.

My colleague Michelle Aguiar will be hosting 19 & 19.5 Third Street in Newport’s coveted Point neighborhood from 11:00 to 12:30 on Saturday, a unique opportunity to own two historic cottages. I’ll be at 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at 2269 East Main Road in Portsmouth (an absolutely beautiful home tucked way off of the main road with so much to love, you need to see this one in person!) and 21 Russell Avenue in Newport (a recently renovated colonial in a quiet off-Broadway neighborhood) from 12:00 to 1:30 on Saturday.
From waterfront estates to starter homes and everything in between, there’s a lot to see in the City by the Sea and beyond. Summer has arrived and market activity continues to build.
