RHS and MHS Theater Company production of CHICAGO

The joint Rogers and Middletown High School Theater Company will bring “Chicago: Teen Edition” to the stage on May 29 and 30, marking the first musical production in Rogers High School’s new state-of-the-art auditorium.

Both performances are at 7 p.m. at Rogers High School, 15 Wickham Road. Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door.

Set in the roaring 1920s, “Chicago” tells the story of Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, two rival vaudevillian murderesses locked up in Cook County Jail. The teen edition maintains the iconic jazz-age score and sharp wit of the original Broadway production while being adapted for high school performers and audiences.

“The students have been working tirelessly to master the complex choreography and legendary musical numbers,” said Megan Sparadeo, teacher and director. “It’s a demanding show that showcases the incredible range of talent we have here, from our actors to our technical crew.”

The production features a mix of Rogers and Middletown students, led by Ruby Macaho as Roxie Hart and Hannah Conroy as Velma Kelly. A student stage crew is managing lighting, sound and set design to bring the gritty, glamorous world of the 1920s to life.

The Rogers and Middletown Theater Company says it is dedicated to fostering creativity, teamwork and technical skills through high-quality theatrical productions, giving students opportunities both on stage and behind the scenes. Past performances have included “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” “Hadestown” and “Little Shop of Horrors.”

The production is presented by special arrangement with Concord Theatricals.
