ACCIDENTAL SISTERS is a women’s world music a cappella ensemble established in September 2009 under the direction of Julie Andrews. They are based in Jamestown, Rhode Island.

Accidental Sisters, a women’s world music a cappella ensemble based in Jamestown, will make its Newport debut at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 10 at Channing Memorial Church, 135 Pelham St. The concert, titled “About Time,” runs through 5:30 p.m. and is free by donation.

Founded in September 2009 and directed by Julie Beth Andrews, the group draws together 16 to 18 amateur and professional musicians for a program spanning choral, pop, and Broadway styles. Andrews is a trained opera singer who has performed in Germany and Austria as well as throughout the United States, and has served on the music faculty at both Salve Regina University and Roger Williams University.

Among the ensemble’s co-directors is Kathryn Kelley Longo, a member of the Rhode Island-based Kelley Sisters.

All proceeds from the Newport performance will benefit Sojourner House in Providence, which provides comprehensive, round-the-clock services to victims of domestic abuse.

The group will also perform the evening before at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 9 at Central Baptist Church in Jamestown.
