Families looking for something to do during April school vacation week have a free option at one of Newport’s most storied landmarks.
The Fort Adams Trust is offering free guided tours for children under 17 at Fort Adams from April 18-26, the trust announced Thursday. The promotion applies exclusively to guided tours, and children must be accompanied by a paying adult.
The tours are designed to be interactive and educational, giving young visitors the chance to explore the fort’s historic tunnels, its military architecture and what daily life was like for the soldiers who lived and worked there. The experience includes hidden passageways and sweeping views of Narragansett Bay.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for families to get outside, explore, and connect with Rhode Island’s history during school break,” said Paul Marshall, executive director of the Fort Adams Trust. “We’re excited to welcome young visitors and provide an experience that is both fun and memorable.”
Fort Adams is located in Fort Adams State Park. When booking ahead, families only need to reserve the paying adult ticket, with the children’s tickets handled upon arrival, according to the trust.
More information, tour times and tickets are available on the Fort Adams Trust website.
Fort Adams Trust is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that operates the historic site with a mission to preserve and revitalize it for public benefit.
