A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Newport County from 7 p.m. Friday through 10 a.m. Saturday as snow moves into the region.

The National Weather Service is forecasting 2 to 4 inches of snow for the area, with accumulation beginning mainly after 9 p.m. Friday. The advisory warns of slippery road conditions that could impact travel Friday evening.

Snow is expected to taper off Saturday morning, with less than an additional half inch possible before 10 a.m. Skies will gradually clear Saturday afternoon with a high near 32°F.

Newport County parking bans

According to the Rhode Island Broadcasters Association, the following Newport County communities have issued parking bans as of 7:30 p.m. Friday:

Middletown: 8 p.m. Friday until 3 p.m. Saturday

Portsmouth: 9 p.m. Friday until 9 a.m. Saturday

As of Friday evening, Newport, Jamestown, Tiverton, and Little Compton had not announced parking bans. Residents should monitor local police departments’ social media pages for updates.

Parking bans help public works crews clear roads efficiently. Vehicles left on the street during a ban may be ticketed or towed at the owner’s expense.
