The Middletown Public Library will celebrate the beginning of a new era with a wall-breaking ceremony at its future home on Monday, Oct. 27.
The 11 a.m. event at 110 Enterprise Center will mark the official start of renovations to transform the 30,000-square-foot building into a modern library and community space.
Community members are invited to attend the free ceremony, which will feature brief remarks from state and local officials, a ceremonial wall-breaking to symbolize the start of construction, and light refreshments.
“Our current library has served Middletown well for many years, but it is too small and outdated to keep up with today’s needs,” said Kimberly Usselman, library director. “This renovation project is the beginning of a new chapter that will give our community the flexible, welcoming, and innovative library it deserves.”
The facility will dedicate approximately 26,000 square feet to the library, with 4,000 square feet reserved for town office use.
The expanded space will allow for larger program and meeting rooms, dedicated children’s and teen areas, flexible workspaces and new technology resources. The location will also offer more parking and outdoor space, making the library more accessible to the entire community.
Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by Oct. 22 at www.downesco.com/ml-rsvp.
