Naval Station Newport will present a special Salute to Navy 250 concert and fireworks display this evening, featuring multiple bands and food trucks in celebration of the Navy’s 250th anniversary.

The free event at Dewey Field opens to military personnel and Department of Defense ID holders at 2 p.m., with general public access beginning at 4 p.m. through pedestrian-only entry at Gate 1. Entertainment includes performances by the Toe Jam Puppet Band at 3 p.m. and 4:15 p.m., followed by the Felix Brown Band at 3:30 p.m., Swamp Dogs at 5:30 p.m. and Navy Band Northeast at 7 p.m. A fireworks display will cap the evening at approximately 9:15 p.m., weather permitting.

Attendees can purchase food from 13 area vendors including Newport Chowder Company, Del’s Lemonade and Ben & Jerry’s. Children’s activities feature carnival games, bounce houses, a rock wall and dunk tank. The Naval War College Museum will remain open during the event.

Gate 1 closes to vehicle traffic at 3:30 p.m. to accommodate pedestrians, with public parking available at the Navy Medical Readiness and Training Command complex on Third Street starting at 3:45 p.m. All guests 18 and older must present photo identification, and bags are subject to search. Coolers, outside food and beverages, pets and drones are prohibited.
