Two Irish music groups will bring the curtain down on Newport’s summer concert series with a free waterfront performance Saturday afternoon.
Turas and Rhode To Dublin are scheduled to perform from 4 to 6 p.m. at the King Park Gazebo, marking the final show in the 2025 summer series presented by Friends of the Waterfront and New England Music Organization.
The five-member group Turas, whose name means “journey” in Irish, will headline the event with what organizers describe as an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary Irish music featuring flutes, drums and strings. The band formed after its members’ individual musical journeys eventually brought them together, according to the press release.
Rhode To Dublin, a Newport-based group specializing in Irish and American traditional music, will open the show. The group is known for bringing local influences to their Celtic repertoire.
The concert represents the mission of Friends of the Waterfront, a volunteer nonprofit organization that advocates for public waterfront access. The group has organized the free summer concert series to highlight the importance of keeping Newport’s shoreline accessible to residents and visitors.
Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs for seating. The outdoor event will proceed weather permitting, with no rain date scheduled.
King Park Gazebo is located at 125 Wellington Ave. in Newport.
