newportFILM Celebrates 15th Anniversary with Landmark Outdoor Documentary Series Featuring Kenny Loggins and Award-Winning Filmmakers

NEWPORT, RI — newportFILM proudly announces the 15th Anniversary season of newportFILM Outdoors, the beloved summer documentary series that transforms Aquidneck Island’s most iconic landscapes into open-air cinemas every Thursday, from June 26 through August 28.

This milestone season features a powerful lineup of award-winning films, acclaimed filmmakers, live music, and notable guests, including a special screening of CONVICTION OF THE HEART, a new documentary about music legend Kenny Loggins. Loggins will be in attendance, along with director Dori Berinstein, on July 24, in collaboration with the Newport Folk Festival at the Newport International Polo Grounds.

Presented by Lila Delman Compass, the series showcases must-see new documentaries at breathtaking venues including Marble House, Fort Adams, Rough Point, and Rosecliff. Admission is free, with a suggested $10 donation. Each evening features stellar live music, local food vendors, filmmaker conversations and community partners, with attendees encouraged to B.Y.O.P. (bring your own picnic).

Season Highlights

The 2025 season opens on June 26 with the Tribeca award-winning film THE LAST DIVE, an emotional portrait of a diver’s deep connection with a manta ray. The screening will be preceded by a pre-film conversation with director Cody Sheehy and Variety’s Brent Lang.

Other standout films include:

  • GIRL CLIMBER (Red Bull Studios) on July 3, featuring professional climber Emily Harrington in person
  • COUNTING CROWS: HAVE YOU SEEN ME LATELY? (HBO) on July 31, with director Amy Scott in attendance
  • STARMAN (SXSW) on August 21, featuring a live Q&A with NASA engineer Gentry Lee and filmmaker Robert Stone

A Community-Focused, Sustainable Experience

newportFILM Outdoors is proudly certified as a Green Event by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management. With support from Black Earth CompostWasteNaut, and 11th Hour Racing, the series aims to divert up to 90% of waste from landfills. Bike Newport partners to provide bike maps, group rides, and on-site racks.

Pre-film events include live music and free popcorn, thanks to A1 Roofing and Construction. Performances will feature beloved local musicians including La Méchante et le Connard, Chelley Knight, Dan Burke, and Chris Vaillancourt. Audiences will select their favorite film as part of the BankNewport Audience Award, a celebrated honor each season.
