Jamestown’s Town Council has given the green light to some changes in parking regulations. They’re extending time limits and increasing fines in key areas around town.

The council approved these tweaks to town ordinances on Monday(June 16). Now, you can park for three hours instead of two in certain areas. This includes parts of Conanicus Avenue, Narragansett Avenue, East Ferry Wharf, and the Town parking lot off Narragansett Avenue.

If you overstay your welcome, it’ll cost you more now. The fine has jumped from $25 to $35 per hour.

The Jamestown Police Department shared these updates on their Facebook page Tuesday morning. They explained that the 3-hour limit, especially at East Ferry Wharf and the Town lot on Narragansett Avenue, is intended to keep cars moving and ensure there is enough parking available.

The police also had a friendly request for downtown workers: Please don’t try to game the system by moving your car every three hours. They’re onto that trick.

These changes are part of updates to Sections 70-25, 70-82, and 70-87 of the town’s rules.

To assist visitors, the police department has provided a helpful parking map. It shows you where to park depending on how long you’re planning to stay in town.
