A Massachusetts man is facing multiple charges after leading Tiverton police on a foot chase that ended with his arrest and the recovery of stolen property.
Jesse Dossantos, 37, from New Bedford, was caught on May 5 after Officer Nikolas Constantino spotted him walking on Stafford Road around 10:15 a.m.
Constantino recognized Dossantos as matching the description of a suspect in two recent incidents: car break-ins at Tiverton Casino on April 28 and a home burglary on Stafford Road on April 30.
When approached, Dossantos reportedly gave false ID before running away. As he fled, he ditched a black bag containing items reported stolen in the earlier incidents.
The chase went through several business parking lots and wooded areas before more officers cornered Dossantos near Karen Avenue and Restful Valley Road.
Dossantos is now charged with obstructing an officer, eight counts of receiving stolen goods under $1,500, and being a fugitive from justice. He also had an outstanding arrest warrant from Fairhaven, Massachusetts.
Detective Nicole Beauvais is still investigating the incidents. The police department is asking anyone with information to contact her at (401) 816-4427 or nbeauvais@tivertonpoliceri.com.
