🚨 You need to know

Heads up, Newport residents and visitors: There’s roadwork coming to Bellevue Avenue, and it’s going to affect traffic for a few days.

From May 12 to 16, crews will be working on concrete repairs along Bellevue Avenue between Ruggles and Rovensky Avenues. This means the road will be down to one lane, with only northbound traffic allowed through.

If you’re heading south on Bellevue Avenue, you’ll need to take a detour at Ruggles Avenue. But don’t worry – large trucks and buses can still go south with help from traffic officers.

The police are warning everyone to expect some delays, so plan your trips accordingly.

Now, you might be wondering why they couldn’t do this work at the same time as the recent gas line repairs. Here’s the deal: The gas line work was done by a specific contractor who dug under the road to fix and upgrade the infrastructure. Once they finished, they filled in the holes and put down temporary asphalt.

The concrete work is a whole different ball game. It’s pretty finicky and needs to be done at just the right time with exact measurements. Doing it separately actually saves time and money in the long run, especially since they don’t always know what they’ll find when they start digging.

So, if you’re driving around Newport from May 12 to 16, give yourself some extra time and be prepared for a bit of a slowdown on Bellevue Avenue. Stay safe out there!
