Four Newport County high school students are among 54 graduating seniors recently honored by Lt. Governor Sabina Matos at the State House in Providence.

The 32nd annual Lt. Governor Leadership Awards ceremony recognizes students who excel in their studies, show dedication to community service, and demonstrate leadership in their schools or communities.

The local honorees are:

  • McKay Gleason from Middletown High School
  • Odunayo Adelaiye, Portsmouth Abbey School
  • Adriyonna Lockhart from Rogers High School in Newport
  • Tyler Garside from Tiverton High School

“Reading the nominations for these awards always fills me with hope,” Matos said. “Rhode Island has outstanding young people in every community who are committed to service. It’s an honor to recognize them as emerging leaders.”

The ceremony celebrates students from across the state who inspire their peers to achieve and excel. Matos added, “Their efforts motivate all of us at the State House to work hard on their behalf and ensure our state continues to offer opportunities that match their incredible potential.”

The Lt. Governor Leadership Awards have been honoring high school seniors for over 30 years, highlighting the bright future of Rhode Island’s youth.

A ceremony was held at the State House to present the students with their awards. This year, 54 outstanding student leaders were nominated for a Lt. Governor Leadership Award by the faculty and administrators of their high school:
